Despite the plain sounding title, this little dish was nothing ordinary. I did not get a whole loaf as the article states, but the appetizer version was just as delicious, I imagine, and this left room for the follow up breakfast that was just as good.
Who says bread has to be bready? Who says it can’t be a big cheesy, spicy mess? The jalapeño focaccia is barely bread at all, but rather a means by which to shove spicy-ass cheese in your face. Slices of the scorching pepper stud the cheesy ravines of fluffy, doughy bread. We like it best as a vehicle for the tuna salad sandwich, but it’s just as good on its own.
Well, apparently not everyone likes grilled cheese sandwiches, which…I suppose has to be true. I don’t know how you can not like this buttery, toasty, crispy, soft and doughy inside, cheesey-packed, jalapeno filled….bread…hehe. There was just the right amount of heat from the peppers for breakfast, and the toast and gooey cheese form the perfect combination. I was already a fan of Highland Bakery before this list, and now I have yet another item from their menu that I’ll have to fight with myself to decide on.
